Online Therapy for Markham Residents

Markham residents can book a therapy session with us this week and never leave the house. Feel Your Way Therapy is a group practice of about 18 registered therapists with an office in downtown Toronto, and the majority of our sessions happen online with clients across Ontario. That includes people in Unionville, Markham Village, Berczy Village, Cornell, Wismer, Cathedraltown and Milliken who wanted to start therapy without adding a 404 commute to the week.

What you get online is the same thing you would get in the room: a registered therapist, a 50-minute session, a treatment approach chosen for your situation, over secure video. Nothing is scaled down except the travel.

Why us

Why Markham residents book with us

01

No waitlist for online sessions

Our downtown rooms book up. Our online schedule does not, because it is not limited by seven physical rooms. Most people get a first appointment within a week. If you have already called two clinics in Markham and Richmond Hill and been quoted six weeks or told the intake line will call you back, that delay is the single most common reason people end up with us instead.

02

Evenings and weekends, as standard availability

A large share of our schedule sits outside business hours because most of our clients work full time. A 7:30pm weekday or a Saturday morning slot is a normal booking here, not a favour.

03

Eighteen therapists, so you get matched properly

Therapist fit predicts outcome more reliably than the specific model on the website. A team this size lets us match on approach (EFT for couples, CBT for anxiety and panic, IFS, trauma-focused work), on gender, on style, on whether you want someone gentle or someone who will challenge you. If the first match is not right, we will move you to someone else. Say so in session two rather than session twelve.

04

Direct billing and sliding scale

We direct bill several major insurers so many clients pay nothing at the time of session. Where a plan does not support direct billing, receipts are issued automatically for reimbursement. We hold a limited number of sliding scale spots starting at $50.

Language

Language, said honestly

We offer therapy in eight languages beyond English: Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, Russian, Ukrainian, German, Portuguese and French. In Markham that matters most for the South Asian communities across Milliken, Middlefield and Box Grove, where Hindi and Urdu speaking clients regularly tell us the first-language option is the reason they booked.

What we do not have

We should be equally clear about what we do not have. Markham has one of the largest Cantonese and Mandarin speaking populations in Canada, and we do not currently have Cantonese or Mandarin speaking therapists on the team. We would rather put that on the page than have you find out on the consult call. If Chinese-language therapy is what you need, the Hong Fook Mental Health Association and the directory at Psychology Today filtered by language are better starting points than we are.

If your first language is not on our list and you are comfortable working in English, that is entirely workable and it is what most of our clients do.

Logistics

The commute is a treatment issue

Consider what attending a downtown appointment actually costs a Markham resident.

By car

40 minutes on an empty road

Unionville or Berczy to Spadina and College is roughly 40 minutes on an empty road. On a weekday evening, with the 404 slow south of Sheppard and the DVP doing its usual thing, budget 65 to 90 minutes each way. The 407 helps and charges you for it. Parking near College Street runs $20 to $25 for the hour you are in the session.

By transit

A genuine option, and a long one

Transit is a genuine option and still a long one. The GO Stouffville line from Unionville, Centennial or Mount Joy gets you to Union in about 40 minutes, then it is Line 1 north to Queen’s Park or St. Patrick and a walk. The catch is frequency: the Stouffville corridor runs far fewer trains than the Lakeshore lines, so your session time has to fit the train rather than the other way around. Viva Purple along Highway 7 connects you west and east well, but it does not get you downtown.

So a 50-minute appointment turns into most of an evening. Add school pickup, a partner who also works, or a manager who notices when you leave at 3:45, and the session becomes the easiest thing in the week to cancel. We see the pattern often: strong start, one traffic-related cancellation, one childcare-related cancellation, gone by week five. That is a logistics failure, not a motivation failure, and online fixes it.

The other option

If you would rather come in person

Our office is at 455 Spadina Avenue, at Spadina and College, seven rooms, a real waiting room, ten minutes from Queen’s Park station.

From most of Markham that is about 40 minutes off-peak and meaningfully longer at rush hour. Some clients decide the trip is worth making sometimes, and combine the two formats:

  • The first session or two in person to build the relationship, then online for the ongoing work
  • Weekly online with an in-person session once a month
  • Couples sessions in person, because two people sharing one laptop camera is genuinely awkward, with individual sessions online

You do not need to decide this before you start. Moving between formats mid-treatment is normal and we can hold both in one plan.

Getting started

How starting works

1

Book a free 15-minute consultation

We will ask what is bringing you in, what you have tried, and what your actual schedule can hold.

2

We recommend a specific therapist

Then we recommend a specific therapist and explain why that person for your situation.

3

Booking, receipts and billing

Booking is done directly through our system, receipts are automatic, and direct billing is set up before your first session.

No referral is required

Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP in Ontario, so the question that matters is your extended health plan rather than your health card.

Frequently asked questions

Questions Markham clients ask

For the majority of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, panic and trauma, research on video-delivered therapy shows outcomes broadly comparable to in-person work, which is why most Ontario practices now run hybrid by default. The real exceptions are worth naming: online is harder if you have no private space at home, if your connection is unreliable, or if you are in acute crisis and need more support than weekly outpatient therapy can provide. We will raise it during the consultation if we think in-person or a different level of care is the better call.
Usually yes, at the same rate as in-person sessions. Ontario extended health plans generally reimburse based on the practitioner’s designation, not the format of the appointment. The thing to check is whether your plan explicitly lists “Registered Psychotherapist,” since some older plans only name psychologists or social workers, plus your annual maximum. Bring your plan details to the consult call and we will read the wording with you.
No. Our only office is at 455 Spadina Avenue in downtown Toronto. We work with Markham clients online throughout York Region, and you are welcome at the Spadina office if you want to make the drive. Practices that advertise a Markham location on a page like this one are frequently describing an hourly rental or a mailing address, and we would rather tell you exactly where we are.
