VAC-Covered Therapy for Veterans
Psychotherapy through Veterans Affairs Canada, billed directly to Medavie Blue Cross, so there's nothing to pay upfront and nothing to claim back for covered sessions.

Psychotherapy covered through Veterans Affairs Canada
Feel Your Way Therapy is a registered Veterans Affairs Canada provider with Medavie Blue Cross, which administers VAC's health benefits. If you're a Veteran with VAC Treatment Benefits, a Rehabilitation plan, or Mental Health Benefits while your disability application is decided, we can provide individual, couple, and family psychotherapy under VAC's Related Health Services program and bill it directly — in person in downtown Toronto or online anywhere in Ontario. Because our fee sits below VAC's maximum rate, covered sessions cost you nothing.
Therapy for what service leaves behind
Post-traumatic stress and operational stress injuries, moral injury, anger, sleep, anxiety and depression, relationship strain, and the transition to civilian life. Our therapists work with Cognitive Processing Therapy, EMDR, and other evidence-based approaches to trauma.
What VAC covers
Individual psychotherapy in person or online, an initial assessment, couple and family counselling, sessions for a spouse or dependant when they're part of your treatment plan, and reports or summary letters where your coverage includes them. All of it is billed by us to Medavie Blue Cross, so there's no claim for you to file.
Verified before you book
Every Veteran's coverage is different. Before your first appointment we confirm with Medavie Blue Cross that your coverage is active, that the service you want is included, and whether pre-authorization is needed — so there are no surprises later.
$0 for covered sessions
Per hour with a Senior Therapist (Registered Psychotherapist). Our full fee.
Our full fee. VAC's Ontario benefit grid allows up to $240 per hour for psychotherapy.
For every covered session within your annual limits. We bill Medavie Blue Cross directly.
Because our fee sits below VAC's maximum, VAC pays it in full for every covered session within your annual limits, and we bill Medavie Blue Cross directly. Every VAC-registered therapist here is a fully Registered Psychotherapist. Reports and summary letters are billed the same way where your coverage includes them.
Longer appointments — 75 or 90 minutes, whether individual, couple, or family — are billed proportionally, which may require you to pay the extra amount out of pocket.
You would pay only if a session falls outside your coverage: once you've used your annual hours and an extension hasn't been approved yet, for a service your plan doesn't include, or for a missed appointment, which VAC never pays for. We explain this before your first session and confirm it in writing in the VAC services consent form.
Rates and limits confirmed against the Ontario VAC Benefit Grid, August 2026.
How to access therapy through VAC
Check that you're eligible.
VAC covers psychotherapy for Veterans with Treatment Benefits coverage — "A" coverage for the conditions VAC has recognized, or "B" coverage for other conditions where there's a demonstrated health need — and for Veterans approved for a Rehabilitation plan. If you've applied for a disability benefit for anxiety, depression, or a trauma-related condition and are waiting on a decision, VAC's Mental Health Benefits may already cover you.
Have your VAC card ready.
We'll ask for your K-number, plus your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your Medavie Blue Cross Health Care Identification card.
Tell us about other sessions and other coverage.
Let us know if you've used psychotherapy with another VAC-registered provider this calendar year, since your annual limit is shared across every provider, and whether you have any provincial or private coverage, which can change who is billed first.
We verify your coverage before anything is booked.
We confirm with Medavie Blue Cross that your psychotherapy coverage is active, that the service you want is included, and whether pre-authorization is required. If it is, we obtain the authorization number and the approved number of sessions before your first appointment. We call you back as soon as it's done.
Book a free consultation call.
You'll speak with your preferred therapist, or the best fit for what you're going through, before committing to anything.
Sign two short forms and add a card on file.
Before your first session you'll review our standard intake and consent form plus a VAC services consent form, which sets out in writing what VAC pays and the rare situations where a charge would come to you. We also keep a credit card on file for those situations only.
Start with an assessment, then ongoing sessions.
Your first appointment is billed to VAC as an assessment. After that we submit a claim to Medavie Blue Cross after each session and keep track of your hours, so you never have to file anything yourself.
Session limits and extensions
VAC covers up to 25 hours of individual psychotherapy per calendar year, combined across in-person and virtual sessions; a standard 50 to 60 minute session counts as one hour. Your first appointment is billed as an assessment, which has its own 15-hour yearly allowance, and couple and family counselling has a separate limit of 25 sessions a year where your coverage includes it. These limits belong to you, not to the clinic, so sessions with any other VAC-registered provider count against them.
We record your approved sessions when you start, update the count after every appointment, and let you and your therapist know when you're two or three sessions from the limit. If continuing is clinically indicated, your therapist submits a Request for Extension of Treatment to Medavie Blue Cross before you reach the cap, so there's no gap in coverage. If an extension is ever declined, we'll talk it through with you and look at the alternatives together.
| Service | Annual limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment (your first appointment) | 15 hours per calendar year | Billed for the first session only |
| Individual psychotherapy, in person or online | 25 hours per calendar year, combined | One 50–60 minute session = one hour |
| Couple or family counselling | 25 sessions per calendar year | Coverage varies by client; we confirm first |
| Spouse or dependant sessions (without the Veteran) | 25 sessions in any 12 months | Usually needs pre-authorization; must be part of the Veteran's treatment plan |
| Reports and summary letters | No fixed annual limit | Coverage varies by client |
Couples and family sessions
VAC can cover couple and family counselling, and individual sessions for a spouse or dependant, when your treatment plan establishes that involving your family is needed for your own recovery. The Veteran remains the focus of treatment. Not every client's coverage includes these services and pre-authorization is usually required, so we confirm both with Medavie Blue Cross before we book anything. Sessions are billed at the same hourly rate as individual therapy, and 75- or 90-minute appointments are billed proportionally, which may leave an amount for you to pay out of pocket.
What we can help with under VAC coverage
VAC covers psychotherapy itself, not a single diagnosis, so your coverage applies to whatever you and your therapist are working on. These are the concerns Veterans most often bring, with the pages that explain how we work with each:
- Trauma and PTSD, including complex PTSD → trauma therapy
- Anxiety → anxiety therapy · Depression → depression therapy
- Anger → anger management
- Grief and loss → grief and loss therapy
- Relationships, couples and intimacy → couples therapy, relationship issues, sex and intimacy counselling
- Family strain → family therapy
- Stress and burnout → stress and burnout therapy
- Leaving the Forces and what comes next → life transitions therapy
- Self-worth and identity after service → self-esteem therapy
- Men's issues → men's issues therapy
Approaches
Approaches our VAC-registered therapists use: Cognitive Processing Therapy and EMDR for trauma; CBT, DBT and ACT; Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples; Internal Family Systems; somatic and mindfulness-based work.
Programs
Structured programs that fit inside your VAC hours: the 12-session CPT trauma program, the 8-session anger management program, the 8-session couples program and the 12-session anxiety program. Each is delivered as individual or couple psychotherapy, so it is billed to VAC session by session like any other appointment.

Meet our VAC-registered therapists
Not every therapist at a clinic is registered with Medavie Blue Cross as a VAC provider, so it's worth asking before you book anywhere. Seven of our therapists are registered VAC Program of Choice 12 providers, every one of them a fully Registered Psychotherapist, and each can bill your sessions directly.
