Coverage

What does insurance cover?

Therapy in Toronto isn’t covered by OHIP — but most extended health plans (through work or school) reimburse sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist. The details vary from plan to plan.

  • Most workplace and student plans include a yearly amount for psychotherapy or counselling.
  • Look for “Registered Psychotherapist (RP)” or “RP (Qualifying)” in your plan — those are the credentials our clinicians hold.
  • Coverage is often a set dollar amount per year, sometimes with a per-session cap.
  • Where your plan allows it, we can bill your insurer directly so you pay less upfront.

We direct bill most major insurers

Blue Cross, GreenShield, Sun Life, Telus Health (Manulife, Canada Life, Desjardins and more), NIHB and others — we submit the claim so you only pay the difference. Coverage differs even within the same insurer, so we’ll help you confirm what applies before your first session.

No shame in asking

Can’t afford the full fee?

Cost should never be the reason you don’t get support. If the standard fee is out of reach right now, you have real options — and asking about them is completely normal.

  • Supervised intern therapy — $125. Work with a qualifying therapist under close supervision for meaningful support at a lower price.
  • Sliding scale from $50. A limited number of reduced-fee spots for anyone facing financial hardship — just let us know.
  • Student rate — $80. A lower rate for currently enrolled students, based on availability.
  • Insurance & direct billing. Your extended health plan may cover most or all of your fee — we’ll help you find out.

Our affordable intern therapy program

Compassionate, supervised psychotherapy at a fraction of the usual cost — with sessions from $50 on a sliding scale and a student rate of $80.

Frequently asked questions

Pricing, answered

No. Psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist is not covered by OHIP. Ontario’s public health plan only covers therapy when it’s delivered by a family doctor, psychiatrist, or through certain hospital and community programs. Most private-practice therapy — including ours — is paid out of pocket or through an extended health (workplace or student) insurance plan.
Usually, yes. Most extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or RP (Qualifying), though a few older plans only list “psychologist” or “social worker.” It’s worth checking your plan’s wording for “Registered Psychotherapist” and any annual maximum before you book — we’re happy to help you read it.
Direct billing means we send your session invoice straight to your insurer, so you don’t pay the full amount upfront and wait for reimbursement. Where your plan allows it, you only pay the portion your insurance doesn’t cover. You can see which insurers we bill directly on our direct billing page.
Private therapy in Toronto typically ranges from about $150 to $250 per 50-minute session. At Feel Your Way Therapy, individual sessions are $190–$220 depending on your therapist’s experience, supervised intern sessions are $125, and reduced-fee sliding-scale spots start at $50 — so the therapy cost in Toronto doesn’t have to be a barrier to getting support.
Yes. We keep a limited number of sliding-scale spots starting at $50, a student rate of $80, and a supervised intern program at $125 for anyone who can’t manage the full fee. Availability changes over time, so reach out and we’ll talk through what’s open — there’s no shame in asking about cost.
